Theseus Slays the Minotaur

Theseus was the favorite hero of the ancient Athenians. His adventures are numerous, but possibly his most famous myth is about his adventures in Crete during which he slayed the Minotaur.

The Minotaur was a fearsome beast, half man and half bull which dwelled in the labyrinth. Every year the Athenians had to send a tribute of seven young men and seven young women to sacrifice to the Minotaur.

With the help of the Cretan princess Ariadne, Theseus was able to successfully navigate the labyrinth, slay the Minotaur, and put an end to the tributes.
