Anthesterion - The 8th Month in the Ancient Athenian Calendar
Today (Feb 21st 2012) is the new moon that marks the first day of Antheserion, the eights month in the Attic Calendar.
This is the month of the Anthesteria, a very important festival in honor of Dionysus. The festival spans over three days: the 11-13th (which should be March 2-4 2012).
The festival revolved around whine and flowers, more details to come on the actual festival days!
March 2 - Pithoigia
March 3 - Choes
March 4 - Chytrai
*For more information on how I estimate these days see my blog post on the Attic Calendar and/or read Festivals of the Athenians by H. W. Parke which is my favorite source on this topic!
