Changjie was a mythical figure in Chinese mythology credited with the creation of the Chinese characters. He was said to have had four eyes which he used to observe everything in the natural world from the footprints of animals to the signs of mountains and rivers. From his observations, he crafted the Chinese characters. It was said when he did this ghosts cried during the night and millet fell from the sky like rain.
